DAT Meetup: Production Meetings

During the Spring 19 we will be having Production Meetings where members can sit in and see how the Summer Production is coming along! Listen to updates from the Producer and Director of the film along with the Department Heads and Supervising Producers. 

This is open to all members of the Digital NEST who either want to get involved with the Summer Film Project or just want to check out how production meetings work. 

No deveices allowed into the space since we will be talking about confidential information pertaining to the Film Project.

Do you want to gain experince in film editing, sound design, or creating visual effects? Join our Post Production Lab and help bring footage from the short film, Loteria Oscura, to the big screen. In this class you will learn how to organize and edit footage, create sound effects and digital effects, and compose a film score. You'll recieve screen credits for your contributions to the short flim and have the chance to see Loteria Oscura premier at the Watsonville Film Festival in Spring 2020.

Digital NEST Studios is looking for highly motivated individuals to join the Creative Team as a Department Head for our Summer 2019 Short Film.

Director of Photography

  • The DP, or cinematographer, is the camera and lighting supervisor on the production. Besides overseeing the work of the camera crew, the DP is also assisted by the grips and electricians in preparing the technical aspects of recording an image.

Production Designer

  • Working under the supervision of the director and in coordination with the art director, the production designerdevelops, coordinates, facilitates, and oversees the design of the sets, whether on stage or practical locations.The production designer supervises the work of the construction crew, set decorating crew, and propertydepartment in conjunction with the director and DP.

Art Director

  • Working under the supervision of the production designer, the art director develops, coordinates, facilitates, and oversees the overall design of the production.

Sound Mixer

  • The sound mixer is the on-set/on-location sound engineer responsible for the recording of production sound and any sync-related on-set sound mixing and playback.

Gaffer

  • The gaffer is the chief lighting technician who supervises set lighting in accordance with the requirements of the DP.

Film Editor

  • Assembles the various shots into a coherent film, working closely with the director.

Visual Effects Supervisor

  • The visual effects supervisor is in charge of the visual effects department.

Composer

  • The composer is responsible for writing the musical score for a film.

 

What is the time commitment? It's a big one...

  • You must be available from February 26, 2019 through July 12, 2019. This is a professional project that requires a lot of time and energy, therefore we will have scheduled time off during this period that way cast and crew can rest.
  • Must be available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm - 6pm starting February 26, 2019. 
  • Must be available during production: June 24, 2019 - July 12, 2019. Time is dependent on the schedule we create.

What is the eligibility to apply?

  • Must be a high school junior or senior or up to the age of 24
  • Must be a member of the Digital NEST
  • Must be interested in filmmaking and/or pursing a career in filmmaking- Must have great time management and communication skills- Must love filmmaking! 

Benefits of joining the 2019 Director's Lab:

  • Gain valuable and professional experience in the filmmaking process.
  • Work with people that share similar interests, aspirations, and the love for film!
  • Receive a letter of recommendation and/or reference from the Producer and/or Director of the short film.
  • Receive end credit at the end of the film- Receive IMDB credit - Receive professional work experience to add to your work resume- A pass to the 2020 Watsonville Film Festival as a Crew Member

DAT: Pre-Production: Producers Lab

An intensive program designed to help filmmakers develop skills as creative independent producers. Join our 2019 film crew as a Supervising Producer and gain valuable experience in the pre-production phase. 

During this hands-on training you will learn how to independently produce a short film while working closely with the Producer, Director and Creative team to: 

  • Breakdown a script into basic elements
  • Create a budget for a short film
  • Effectively schedule a film crew around locations and time restrictions
  • Work closely with the Director, Cast, Crew and the creative team
  • Supervise and manage a department budget
  • Create and execute a fundraising plan to fund our film
  • On-set support during production
  • Submit to film festivals (including the Watsonville Film Festival)

Calendar Jun 10, 2019 at 12 pm, runs for 5 weeks

Want to work on a short film? Join our production of Loteria Oscura as a Production Assistant (PA)! During this hands on experience you will learn to naviate a live film set and learn to assist various departments to make sure we get the shot we need. During this hands-on training you wil learn: 

  • The function of each department on set. Departments include: camera, lighting, sound, and production design
  • The different roles on set (Director, Production Manager, Gaffer, etc.) 
  • To familiarize yourself with production documents such as call sheets, the shooting schedule, and much more! 
  • How to use different equipment to achieve a cinematic look
  • How to work with a collaboritivley with different creatives 

Additional Information: 

  • Must be available from June 10 - July 12 (no exceptions)
  • First 2 weeks we meet Mon-Fri from 12pm - 4pm,
  • The last 3 weeks we meet Mon-Fri late at night to shoot the film (roughly 6pm - 4am). 
  • High school juniors, seniors, and college students recommended to particiapte. 
  • Name will be featured in the end credits of the film

Lunch and transportation is paid for. 

 

The day will look like: 

  • Arrival: 9am
  • Welcome/tour: 9:15am -10:15am
  • Mock Interview & Resume Tips Workshop: 10:30am - 12pm
  • Leave in time for lunch or have lunch w/ employees. 

Media Fellowship

Thank you for showing interest in volunteering as a Media Fellow for the 2019 Watsonville Film Festival. This year we having an amazing showcase of films, filmmakers, and talents attending and we want you to help document the event as a Media Fellow. As a Fellow you will help to document the festival in different roles and receive the following perks: 

  • Receive an all access Media Fellows badge with your name and title
  • Access to the Media and Volunteer Center during the festival
  • Access to screenings and special events that are sold out
  • Interview and meet filmmakers and talent attending the festival
  • Receive community service hours and/or a Media Fellows Certificate of Participation.
  • We will provide snacks and drinks throughout the festival for Fellows.

Must attend one of the follwing traingings to particapte, March 20 4pm - 5:30pm or March 27 from 5pm - 7:30pm
