Program Session

DAT: Film 2 - Pre-Production Lab (1) - Disposable Short Film

Calendar Feb 1, 2021 at 3:30 pm, runs for 16 weeks

The lab exposes members to project management for filmmaking through the roles of the Producer and Director and their relationship to the crew and cast. The lab is meant for highly motivated individuals who are looking for a career in the film and media industry. Members will learn how to schedule and plan a short film, how to work with cast and other crew members, and how to creatively and visually tell a story. 

Members will learn the following in the Pre-Production Lab: 

  • Script breakdowns, scheduling, casting, crew on-barding, budgeting , location scouting, artistic planning, and fundraising strategies for the short film. 
  • Art Direction, cinematography, storyboarding, floor plans, lighting plans, shot list. 
  • Working with actors and crew to create a short promotional video for fundraising. 
  • Members will be assigned key roles for the Summer Production such as Producer, Asst. Director, Gaffer, Grip, Camera Operator, Boom Operator, Production Designer, Director of Photography, Script Supervisor, Make-Up, Hair Stylist,  etc. 

After membres get exposed to the different departments and roles within the department, members will select one of the following departments to work in: 

  • Camera Department 
  • Lighting Department
  • Production Design Department
  • Sound Department 

Please note that only college age students can apply to become a department head meaning you are in charge of spearheading that department. 

Additional Information:

  • High school seniors are welcomed to participate, college members preferred. 
  • Must be available to film in June to particapte in the Pre-Production Lab. 
  • Be sure to get added to the waitlist if the class is full.

  • Production Lab (1), must be apart of the Pre-Proeuction Lab to particapte in Production Lab.

Websites are the source of the worlds of information and the better they perform and the more elegant they look, those websites are more successful. Get immersed in the process of building a website from scratch using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and simple design strategies. This course welcomes all, a creative, a complete beginner and someone that feels intimidated by tech. It is a supportive and safe space to engage with web design and learn about an in-demand career field that is ever-changing.

Tools: 

  • Download Zoom
  • Download a Text Editor: Visual Studio Code, Atom, etc. Visual Studio Code is prefered
  • We will be using Repl.it, so please make an account with your Gmail

Get introduced to the world of programming by learning Python and pygame by creating a challenging and fun platform game for your friends to play. You will learn professional tools that software and web developers use today in a fun and interactive way. At the end of the workshop, you will come out with a game you created, a comfortable level of Python and Pygame, the confidence to learn more code, and a competitive edge as an aspiring web or software developer.

Be part of the team that designs, plans, and manages events that tie the NEST to the wider community. Learn how to think critically, solve problems, and see a project through from beginning to end alongside a supportive team. You can transfer those skills to become a project manager, event coordinator, or a promoter. Past events coordinated by this team include holiday parties, game days, fashion shows, and movie screenings. In light of the pandemic, we will get the opportunity to think creatively about how people can connect virtually or at a physical distance. What will our next event be? It’s up to you!

Learn leadership, project management, logistics, and marketing skills while you work on a project that makes a difference in the community! This group started to address the needs that arose from COVID-19, but it will continue to tackle the needs in our community even after the pandemic is over. Past projects include: virtual learning for elementary school students at Ohlone Elementary School, a one-stop website for community resources- especially for the COVID crisis, managing social media to market a fundraiser to help undocumented families, bring awareness to farmworkers as essential workers and advocate for farmworker rights. What do you think we should work on next?

*Each week volunteers will work 1-2 hours on their project outside of Wednesday's meeting time.

As a part of Tech Squad, you will also learn to break apart computers, fix them, and put them back together. You'll be able to impress your family and friends with your newfound tech savviness! Most Importantly, you will find an accepting and supportive community that will help you grow and develop high technical skills, and that will connect you to the world of technology.

Join North County's first Tech Squad  with Digital NEST.  We will train you and you will use your skills to help your community by helping individuals who do not have internet access at home in North County. We will be  setting up hotspots and distributing them.  We will set up a hotline to provide support for those who need tech training and have questions about tech to meet their everyday needs. At the same time, connect with the Digital NEST, learn to troubleshoot your own technical problems at home and make a positive impact on your community.  "Be the change you want to see in the world".

Data can simply refer to information about something, but if we look at how the largest corporations refer to data, we’ll see a digital ocean of resources, wealth and opportunities. In this workshop, we explore the many ways we can use data to make empowered decisions, including how we store, manage and incorporate data into important technologies like databases, applications, and software.
