DAT: Audio Visual Journalism

Make yourself into a news reporter, local historian, and storyteller for your community. Professional journalists and UC Santa Cruz students and professors will show you how to gather, write and produce grassroots radio and video news. Your work will be published online and broadcast to every home around the Monterey Bay. You can make a name (and a career) for yourself while serving the community.
We'll dive deep into:
- Electronic news gathering
- Digital publication
- Studio audio production
- FM and remote broadcasting
- Web streaming.
We'll also cover:
- reporting ethics,
- writing for diverse audiences,
- social research methods, and
- A crash course on local government and social issues.
Along the way, we'll explore career options and income opportunities in local media and nationally-distributed programs, too.
Required for DMC Students.
DM 4: Digital Graphics (Cabrillo College + NEST)

This is a Cabrillo and Digital NEST course:
- Introduces creation and editing of digital graphics, illustrations, photographs, and applied color theory for pre-press production and screenbased media.
In order to register you must sign up for Cabrillo College and Enroll in DM 4: Digital Graphics (online, or distance learning).
- Madnitory Tutoring will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:08pm - 3:00pm
Required for DMC Students at Watsonville High School.

Impactathons are weekend-long events for youth to learn technology purposefully and give back to their community. This is a chance for youth to team up with other youth and community organizations to work on an organizational need and add value to an already valuable organization.
The NEST Impactathon will focus on a social justice issue that youth care about while developing their career skills and furthering the Digital NEST mission to support youth.
This Impactathon will take place January 26th and 27th from 11 am - 4 pm. It is open to all members at the NEST. There are no prerequisites and skills needed to attend. Come out learn technology, connect with youth and give back to your community.
