Calendar May 11, 2019 at 11 am

Github is one a must-have tool for developers. It allows other people to work with you on the same project and it has a useful history log so you can go back to a previous version of your code if you mess up the code you’re working on. It’s like a Google Doc for coders, and more than that, it’s a place where you can show off your work, like a portfolio. Learn how to use it and stand out to employers.

The prerequisite is WIT 1: Exploring Web & Information Tech.

Any job seeker stands out from the crowd when they have portfolios in their resumes. What does a programmer’s portfolio look like? If you haven’t gotten to the point of creating your own projects, collaborating on an existing project on GitHub is a good way to start. Employers notice of your contributions on GitHub and they like that they can see your code. They may even ask you to write some code for a sample exercise and upload it to GitHub. Not only that, Github is an essential tool to know how to use a popular development platform that is commonly used with GitHub. Join this field trip to understand the Github world.

Additional Information:

  • Encouraged to have: Beginner to Intermediate WIT Frontend and/or WIT backend experience. Higher skill set is also welcomed.
  • This field trip specific for people that are in WIT.
