You can transfer those skills to become a project manager, event coordinator, or a promoter. With our space opening up to members again, this fall we will focus on events to build community and reintroduce our members to the NEST.

Additional Information: Fall will be a hybrid session where Mondays we hold a virtual session to learn new skills & plan our event’s logistics, and Wednesdays will serve as an in person working session which is voluntary for those comfortable working out of the Watsonville site.

Beginners welcome. Bring your ideas and creativity! We will assign tasks and responsibilities based on your experience and willingness to learn.

You can ask for community service hours for your work.

WIT : Database Design

Calendar Sep 20, 2021 at 4 pm, runs for 10 weeks

Description:

Our world today is heavily technologically driven, and everyday there are massive amounts of information being transferred across different devices, systems, and networks. To the common person, it’s easy to take for granted how accessible, reliable, secure, and efficient data and information is shared between our devices and the internet. This is largely made possible by the critical work of data programmers, architects, and administrators, who design and implement the vast database systems that operate schools, hospitals, banks, airports, and so much more. This workshop will introduce you to the design process deployed in databases, and explore database management systems such as MySQL. By the end you should be able to craft a simple database system that deploys information efficiently and reliably.

Learn leadership, researching methods, project management, logistics, and marketing skills while you work on a project that makes a difference in the community! This group started to address the needs that arose from COVID-19, but it will continue to tackle the needs in our community even after the pandemic is over. This Fall will be the start of a new phase where we learn different research methodologies as teams. You will be able to contribute to  how your groups would like to gather data on a specific issue to learn more about the challenges community members face. This will be the start to a year long initiative to create a thought out plan on how to address the needs of our community.

Additional information: Fall will be a hybrid session where Tuesdays we hold a virtual session to learn new skills & plan our research strategy, and Thursdays will serve as an in person working session which is voluntary for those comfortable working out of the Watsonville site.
